What is a Book and how is it different from an Account?
An Account is where the money is. A Book is how you choose to divide your trade record. Every trade sits in exactly one Book.
They answer different questions and it is worth keeping them apart in your head.
An account is a fact about the outside world — your funded account at a prop firm, your live brokerage account, a demo. It carries a type, a firm, and its own rules.
A Book is a fact about you. It is your own partition of the record, and you decide what it means: a backtest set, the year before you got serious, the crypto experiment, a period either side of a rule change.
You do not have to create one to start. A book called Main is created for you the first time you open this page, and everything lands there until you say otherwise. New books are made with the name box and + New book, and each carries a type — Custom by default.
Each row shows what the book holds at a glance: its trade count, the date range it spans and its running P&L.
With only one book, the per-trade book picker stays hidden in the trade detail panel — there is nothing to file between. Add a second and it appears in the trade's header.
The practical difference is that you can read two Books together without merging them, and stop reading them together with nothing moved. Accounts do not work that way.
