How do I choose or change my microphone?

Voice mode → Microphone. It defaults to your system default; pick a specific input if the browser keeps grabbing the wrong one.

The picker lists every audio input the browser can see. Until you have granted microphone permission at least once the names are blank, so the app shows a Grant access button instead of the list — press it, allow the prompt, and the real device names appear.

The common reason to change this is a Mac with an iPhone nearby. macOS Continuity can make the iPhone the system default microphone without telling you, which is how you end up recording through a phone in another room. Choosing your built-in or USB microphone explicitly fixes it.

The app stores the device's name as well as its id, because browsers rotate device ids whenever hardware is re-plugged or a session restarts. On the next session it re-finds your microphone by name. If that name is nowhere to be found — you are on a different machine, or the headset is unplugged — it prefers the built-in microphone over anything that looks like a Continuity device, rather than silently falling back to the phone.

A change takes effect on the next dictation session, not the current one. If you plug something in while the page is open, refresh.
