How do I log an options trade?

+ Trade as usual, then press the Options pill under the symbol. The single entry/exit price pair is replaced by a leg builder, and you add one row per contract.

The pill usually presses itself — an options symbol is recognised from what you type, and an instrument already registered as options switches the form over on its own. The pill is there to force it either way when the guess is wrong.

Beside the pill you will see the root and its contract size, like SPY · ×100 per contract. If it reads multiplier not set in amber, stop and fix that first — see the P&L question below.

Step by step

  1. Open + Trade and type the symbol.
  2. Press Options if the form has not already switched.
journal/opt-01-options-pillthe Options pill under the symbol field, with the root and its multiplier beside it
  3. Add a row per contract with + Add leg, filling in its side, type, strike, expiry and quantity, plus the premium you opened at under Open and closed at under Close.
journal/opt-02-leg-builderthe leg builder with two legs of a vertical spread
  4. Set Qty (units of the structure) above the legs — how many of the whole thing you traded.
  5. Fill in Underlying price at entry if you have it. It is optional, and it is what makes moneyness computable without needing a greek.
  6. Leave P&L blank. It reads auto from the legs once they are closed and computes itself.

One position is one trade, not one row per leg. An iron condor is a single trade in your journal with four legs inside it — so it counts once in your win rate. A journal that stored a leg per row would book a profitable condor as two winners and two losers, and every number built on that would be wrong.
